VAI Intermediate & Junior Championships 2008/09
April 4th & 5th, UCD Sports Centre, Belfield, Dublin 4
Only one of last years defending champions were able to successfully defend their title at this years Championships, a determined Cork side claimed their third Men's Intermediate title in three years after a 3-1 victory over Cbphoto.ie. Meanwhile there was a marathon match between last years champions Rebels and Ballymun Patriots; with the Rebels 2-0 up the title looked to be heading back to the rebel county for a second year but a superb fightback from Ballymun saw them claim the Intermediate Women's title in a thrilling five set match.
In the Junior Cup Tallaght Rockets claimed their first Junior Title with victory over Santry in the Women's section and Garda also made up for their disapointment in the final the previous year with victory over Ballymun Patriots.
This years competition saw a great standard of Volleyball played over both days with some very close and exciting matches being played out in the group and knock-out stages. There were suprise victories for sides from Division 2 over Division 1 counter parts in a number of matches which is encouraging for the National Leagues and should provide some very close encounters in the coming seasons. |
