Mullingar Westmeath Volleyball Club - News

Tuesday 28th August 2007 saw the Mullingar Westmeath Volleyball Club come together as it hosted its first ever games of volleyball in Mullingar Town Park. On a bright summers evening, eight of the twelve current members took part in a series of games, ranging from 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 and Females v Males, and overall it proved to be an enjoyable night for all.

The current plan for the club is to continue playing outdoor in the park until the end of September, when the club will then go indoors to a local school once a week. To date there has been considerable interested in the club from players who would have played in their home countries before moving to Ireland.

With recreation club's now firmly established in Tullamore, Edenderry and Mullingar, it is hoped to create a Midlands Tournament or mini League over the coming Months. Next Tuesday, 4th September in Mullingar Town Park at 7pm, members from Edenderry travel up to compete in some games against Mullingar.

The Mullingar Westmeath VC is funded under the National Plan Against Racism, supported by Westmeath Local Sports Partnership with direct involvement from the Volleyball Association of Ireland.

Please Note: Mullingar Westmeath VC next Games on Tuesday 4th September at 7pm in Mullingar Town Park. If you would like to play with one of the above Clubs then please get in contact at the below e-mail address.

June 21st 2007: Westmeath Volleyball Club sets up!

A new Volleyball Club was formed in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath recently after several months of negotiations and planning. The club was granted funding from the Department of Justice and Law Reform through the Westmeath Local Sports Partnership and will provide Volleyball opportunities to everyone in the county and to those mainly who have originated from outside of Ireland.

The club will be based at Mullingar Tennis and Badminton Club in the centre of the Town. It is anticipated that the upgrading of the Hall will commence in the coming weeks and the club will be fully functional by the end of the Summer. In the meantime, the club will play outdoors in
the park behind the Hall on Tuesday evenings (7pm-9pm - Starting Date TBA). To date there are a number of nationalities signed up, including Slovaks, one German, one Welsh and a number of Irish. The club will initially be a recreational club with the medium term aim of becoming a competitive club.

If you know of anyone living in the Westmeath area who would be interested in joining the club as a player or Coach then please contact John at info@volleyballces.com.
