CEV to support new Schools Project.

Volleyball Ireland has been successful in a grant application to drive forward schools Volleyball. The support will provide a number of schools with new nets and a pack of 10 balls.  The project is delivered in partnership with the Confederation of European Volleyball and will see 50 schools receive over €500 worth of equipment each.

The equipment allocation is predominantly aimed at kick starting new schools to compete in competitive Volleyball. The programme will enable the creation of mini leagues within strategically identified areas, ensuring a strong legacy and continued participation in the sport. General Manager of Volleyball Ireland, Gary Stewart said, “we are looking to identify 6-7 schools in a geographical area – the schools will compete in localised competition and then filter into our National Cup. It’s the first step in the formation of a club in that area”. Volleyball Ireland will support the school with teacher training workshops alongside the successful Transition Year programme which upskills young leaders.

Volleyball Ireland President Grainne Culliton added, “we are grateful to the CEV for their continued support and we are delighted President Aleksandar Boricic will be launching the project on his visit to Ireland next month.” Mr Boricic and representatives from the CEV are visiting Ireland for high level talks on the development of the sport over the weekend of October 5th-7th, this will include attendance at the 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner at the Ballsbridge Hotel, tickets are still available.
