Licensed Regional Development Agents

VAI Department: Development and Coaching

Background
The VAI are seeking to license agents in various areas of the country to supplement a development network seeking to increase participation in the sport particularly at Schools level. The agent will be an independent operator, trained and supported by the VAI, but operating as a separate business generating its own income.
This is an opportunity for enterprising individuals to develop a part time or full time business to satisfy these demands. The ideal applicant(s) will have a sports coaching/development background though not necessarily in Volleyball.

Successful individuals will be trained by the Volleyball Association of Ireland and licensed to coach SpikeBall* - an adapted form of Volleyball suited to beginners at all levels. They will develop their business by teaching/coaching in local schools and clubs and the VAI would provide on going support, further training in both the sport and small business development and by referring further opportunities to them.

There is also a range of support materials for the game (volleyballs, coaching handbooks etc) which would be supplied by the VAI for onward commission based sale by the licensee to schools and clubs. Other commission rewards are also available, by ensuring schools from the region are affiliated to the VAI each year.

License holders will have permission to use the VAI and SpikeBall logos in their promotional literature and have a dedicated space on the official VAI website.

*SpikeBall - This is the VAI's adapted game, especially designed to suit beginners.

The Role
These agents will play a key role in developing Volleyball nationally. The main emphasis will be on developing the sport and in supporting development in existing schools and youth clubs. The person selected for each area will also be working with the support of the Director of Development & Coaching and the VAI office.

Development of SpikeBall skills in both Primary and Post Primary Schools and Junior clubs will be the main focus of the position. The agent will be mainly dealing with Teachers, Youth Volunteers as well as young people, so clear presentation and communication skills are extremely important. All selected candidates will be subject to Garda vetting before Training.

Licence
Following their selection the officers will be licenced for One Year and will meet with the Director of Development and Coaching (DDC) to establish key priorities following which a suggested work programme for their area will be drawn up. There will be training given before placement and once in position, the officers will report formally to the DDC at least once a month. A review of the work undertaken or further supports required will take place on a 6 monthly basis.

Key Deliverables include:

  • Increase the percentage of participation in the sport in your designated area (exact % will be agreed at appointment)
  • Develop increased affiliation of new Primary and Post Primary Schools and Youth Clubs in Volleyball/Spikeball
  • Assist teaching staff in affiliated schools and youth clubs to improve SpikeBall game skills
  • Help develop new Junior clubs
  • Develop links between local schools and community based clubs
  • Help develop local leagues and blitzes between clubs

This description is not to be regarded as comprehensive as there may be other opportunities that can be offered from time to time.

Personal Specifications
The person we are seeking will have knowledge of sport development and have the ability to work both as part of a team and independently on their own initiative. They will be able to develop their own business skills and to successfully achieve targets and overcome challenges. They will have the ability to work within existing programmes and with pre-determined policies. They will have excellent inter personal and communication skills and have ability to adapt to the needs of teachers, schools and youth organisations.
