The first game of the day was the Schools Senior Cup which saw St Mary’s College Naas take on St Brigid’s Vocational School Loughrea. St Mary’s Naas settled into the game quickly and raced to an early lead in the 1st set. Some strong serving from the Naas girls put pressure on the Loughrea serve receive and forced quite a few passing errors and St Mary’s won the first set 25 – 13.
The second set was much closer, with the score line evenly matched up to the half way stage in the set. The Loughrea girls began to find their groove in the game and were beginning to put together some good attacking plays. For each impressive attack Loughrea scored particularly through the middle, St Mary’s answered with an equally impressive attack of their own. Towards the later stage of the set the Naas girls began to pull away and took the set 25 – 19.
The third set again was closely contested in the first stages of the set. St Mary’s however had grown in confidence with two sets already in the bag, and played great attacking Volleyball to deny Loughrea an opportunity to get back into the match. Naas won the 3rd set 25 – 13 and with it the 2010/11 School Senior Cup title. The Naas girls added to their silverware on the day with Aoife Clancy from Naas being awarded the MVP for the match.
