Transition Year Girls SpikeBall Leaders
Award Programme

This successful and very exciting programme by the Volleyball Association of Ireland and supported by the Irish Sport Council “Women in Sport” initiative is beginning its fifth year
This programme is aimed at girls in Transition Year programmes in Post Primary school across Ireland.
The aim of this initiative is to establish and deliver a Transition Year Girls SpikeBall Leadership Award Programme. Transition Year girls will become leaders in introducing an adapted Volleyball game (SpikeBall) to junior pupils in their own school, local primary schools and in the local community. This initiative will help to develop partnerships between post primary school involved and local primary school and/or clubs.
Course Delivery - 6 hour Leadership Course, including How to Coach SpikeBall, Refereeing, Administration, Health & Safety and PRO.
Student Coaching - 6 weeks (1 hour per week) in local primary schools.
Blitz - TY Students organise a Blitz for all the Primary children taking part in programme.
Monitoring - The programme is monitored by VAI development officersstaff.
Certification - Students receive Transition Year Girls SpikeBall Leaders Award Certificate on full completion of course.
The 2011/12 Transition Year Girls SpikeBall Leadership Award Course will be delivered to the following schools. 20 Post Primary schools will take part. Details will be posted when course dates are confirmed.
