Club History:
Dublin Volleyball Club (DVC) is in 2nd year of their club’s 5 year club development strategy which has growth and development objectives to support the development of the sport of volleyball in the community that our club serves. A major focal point of our strategy is the development of our youth\junior section which we believe is fundamental to the future of the club and the sport in Ireland in addition to promoting fundamental attributes of healthy lifestyles to the children and families in the communities where we play our sport.

We are in the second year of this strategy and we have made outstanding progress through a lot of effort from a number of individuals in the club. In 2009 DVC found a home base in Colaiste Bride, Clondalkin - a Secondary Girls school with surrounding Secondary and Primary schools (male and female) which will be the source of our new members in the Junior Section. Through negotiations with Colaiste Bride we have an agreed weekly slot where Juniors and Beginners will be welcome and coached by members of DVC’s coaching team from August 2009.

DVC Host Junior Tournament Sponsored By Tullow Oil Plc.

In August 2009 at the DVC 24 Hour Volleyball marathon, DVC launched their Junior Section, sponsored by Tullow Oil. Since then DVC’s Junior Coach, Laurent Cauet has been running sessions every Thursday bringing Volleyball and Spikeball to the new members of the club and the community.

In order to heighten the interest levels and create some competition DVC arranged the Club’s first ever Junior Tournament. The teams comprised of a mix of players from the Coláiste Bride girls who are regulars on Thursdays, along with newcomers from St. Paul’s, Greenhills and Presentation, Terenure. The girls picked their own unique team names such as ‘Jedwards’, ’All-Stars’, ‘Electric Sheep’ and other ‘interesting’ names to say the least.

Despite some tough competition the winners were ‘Mary’s Team’ (that’s Mary Lalor the Club Head Coach who only suggested the name – she didn’t actually play on the team!!) with ‘All-Stars’ as the runners-up.

The girl’s had loads of fun and on the night they received their Tullow Oil sponsored T-Shirts - Tullow logo on the front and the DVC logo on the back. Photos were taken with Tullow Oil representatives who were very impressed with the evening and the development of the sport in the local community.           As a consequence of running this tournament we are proud to announce an increase in numbers to the Junior Section and welcome the girls from Greenhills and Terenue as they become regulars to the club.

Kevin Quinn, General Manager of Tullow Oil in Dublin commented : ‘Tullow is delighted to sponsor the Dublin Volleyball Club tournament.  As one of Ireland’s leading companies Tullow has an active world-wide Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, and supporting the DVC tournament fits in well with our policy of working with communities where we operate; We wish the DVC Juniors all the best in the future’

DVC Club Chair Person - Clodagh Doherty comments:

A big ‘thank you’ to Tullow Oil for their support, it was great having a representative here tonight – Akeem Shopeju. His presence elevated the importance of the event for both coaches and players. I'm so thrilled with the progress we've made in such a short time since launching the Junior Section, and it is hugely due to the support of Tullow Oil which has ensured our developmental progress isn’t delayed due to lack of funds, the growth of our Junior Section also brings added benefits to the local community and the sport as a whole

Club History:
Our Club was founded in September 2009 and was up an running with its first training session on the 8th October 2009.  We set the club up because we wanted to give the young girls and boys of New Ross and surrounding area an opportunity to learn a new skill, keep fit and make and keep friends, while in a safe envoirnment. We also wanted to set up the Club as we had enjoyed teaching Spikeball to the local junior school students during our tranistion year programme.
