National SpikeBall Primary School Championships
West Region Finals '08
The Eastern Region SpikeBall Finals took place on 26st February at St. Brigid's Convent of Mercy Secondary School, Tuam, Co Galway. Teams from Roscommon, Galway and Mayo and Louth took part in what proved to be an extremely exciting event. SpikeBall is an adapted Volleyball game that has been growing steadily in popularity amongst Primary and Post Primary schools over the past number of years. Qualification for the Regional finals was done through county championships so the best that the West had to offer was on show on the day. The winners and runners up from each competition qualify for the National Finals.
Girls Competition
Qualifier: Creagh NS, Ballinasloe, Galway.
Qualifer: St Ita's, Cross St, Loughrea, Galway.
Boys Competition
Winners: Abbey BNS (team 2), Circular Road, Roscommon Town, Roscommon.
Runners-up: Creagh NS, Ballinasloe, Galway.
Mixed Competition
Winners: St Attractas (team 1), Charlestown, Co Mayo.
Runners-up: St Augustine's (team 3), Ballinasloe, Galway.
A big thank you to Marie Hughes and the girls from St Brigid's Convent of Mercy, Tuam for assisting in the refereeing and score keeping on the day. Well done to everyone who took part and all the finalists.
The National Finals will be held on 11th March in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick.
