CEO Vacancy

Chief Executive Officer, 0.6 FTE

Volleyball Ireland

Volleyball Ireland is seeking a part-time Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation through its next phase of development.

Volleyball Ireland is the National Governing Body for volleyball in Ireland. Its role is to promote, develop and govern the sport across clubs, schools, competitions, national teams, beach volleyball, volunteers, coaches, referees and the wider volleyball community.

This is a permanent, part-time position at 0.6 FTE, equivalent to approximately three days (21 hours) per week. The role operates on a hybrid basis, combining office-based and home working, with the Sport Ireland Campus serving as the primary work location. Attendance at selected events, stakeholder meetings, and occasional national and international travel will also be required.

The Board recognises that a part-time CEO role requires a clear and sustainable allocation of responsibilities. The position has therefore been designed within a broader organisational structure, supported by operational and finance resources, allowing the CEO to focus on strategic leadership, governance, stakeholder engagement and the continued development of volleyball in Ireland.

The CEO will report to the Board, with the President/Chair acting as the primary reporting interface.

Role Focus

The CEO will be expected to provide strategic leadership, senior stakeholder engagement, strong governance and financial oversight, commercial focus, effective people leadership and clear organisational prioritisation.

The main priorities will include:

  • Delivering Board-approved strategic priorities and preparing for the next strategic planning cycle.
  • Strengthening relationships with Sport Ireland, CEV, FIVB, clubs, commissions, volunteers, sponsors, partners and relevant public bodies.
  • Supporting the development of a sustainable operating model for a 0.6 FTE Chief Executive structure.
  • Developing realistic commercial, sponsorship and partnership opportunities.
  • Ensuring effective governance, financial oversight, safeguarding, risk management and Board reporting.
  • Leading, supporting and developing the staff team and key operational leads to deliver organisational objectives.

Candidate profile

Volleyball Ireland is seeking candidates with senior leadership or senior management experience, strong stakeholder management and decision-making skills, financial acumen, governance awareness, and a proven track record of delivering results.

Experience within a National Governing Body, sports organisation, membership body, not-for-profit organisation, public interest organisation, or a comparable environment would be beneficial.

Candidates from other sectors will also be considered where they can demonstrate the skills, motivation and adaptability required for the role.

The role is likely to suit someone who is credible, organised, collaborative, financially astute, and comfortable leading within a small, growing and resource-conscious organisation. Candidates should be able to work effectively with staff, volunteers, Board members, clubs, commissions, funders, sponsors and international partners.
