FAQs

Who is eligible to participate in the Championships?

This competition is open to all clubs (except for players who play in the NL Premier Division), Junior and Intermediate, and it allows teams to compete at their appropriate level.

How many teams can take part?

There is no maximum limit on the number of teams that can take part in the Championships.  In 2023, over 40 teams took part across the five competitions.

How can my club/team enter the competition?

The Entry Form is available online at this link.  All players must be registered (see section below) and a team list must be submitted to the Volleyball Ireland Office by close of business on Tuesday 20th February.

My team/club is not currently affiliated with Volleyball Ireland, can we still enter?

Each team participating must be part of a League or Associate Club affiliated with Volleyball Ireland. If you are a social group, you can become an Associate Club by filling in the affiliation form and paying the affiliation fee. More info about Club Affiliation here.

Do we have to do any further registrations?

Yes, potentially, depending on the current registration status of your players.  All players intending to play must be individually affiliated with Volleyball Ireland.  If you are a National League player then your registration covers the Championships.  If you play recreationally, you will need to register as a non-league player.  Players can only affiliate with one team/club with Volleyball Ireland at any one time.

When is the closing deadline to enter the Championships?

Please note that the deadline for entry is 9am on Thursday 8th February.  This deadline allows us time to confirm competition formats and schedule for the weekend, which can only be determined once we know how many teams are taking part, and which we can then communicate to teams in advance to assist with planning and transport needs.

What do the sections, Intermediate and Junior, mean on the form and what is the difference between them?

Intermediate is more suited to experienced league teams or non-league teams who have played at a decent competitive level.  Junior is suited to inexperienced league teams or teams of a lower standard along with teams who play recreationally.  Please indicate on the form whether your team would prefer to play at Intermediate or Junior level.  Feel free to contact the office on info@volleyballireland.com if you have any questions in this regard.

What time will the event start and end each day?

Matches will take place in the hall from approximately 9.30am to 6pm each day.  Each competition will be played to a finish on a single day.  Details of which competition will be played on which day, and fixture details will be confirmed after the closing date.
