3 days of international competition comes to an end for our Ireland U20 Women’s National Team, who finish 4th at the Small Countries Association Championships in San Marino.
Ireland opened the tournament with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Northern Ireland, battling back after dropping the opening set and holding their nerve to take the deciding fifth set 15-10.
The team followed that up with an impressive 3-0 win over Scotland, securing their place in the semi-finals before a defeat to a strong Iceland side saw Ireland finish second in their group.
In the semi-final, Ireland faced hosts San Marino, eventually falling 3-0. That set up a bronze-medal match against the Faroe Islands, where another 3-0 defeat brought Ireland’s campaign to a close and confirmed a 4th-place finish.
There was also Irish representation among the officials, with Referee Aidan McDonnell selected to officiate at the Championships. Aidan finished his tournament with an appointment to the Gold Medal Match between San Marino and Iceland.
A huge thank you and congratulations to all of our players, coaches, staff and officials who represented Volleyball Ireland throughout the competition, as well as everyone who supported the team in the build-up and throughout the week.
