The 2026 VLY Masters Tournament took place on Sunday, 18 May 2026 at the ALSAA Sports Complex, bringing together players from across the country for a full day of competitive volleyball.
Running from 11am to 6pm, the event was open to non-Premier players aged 40 and over and saw 14 teams compete across three pools and three courts. Teams travelled from locations including Carlow, Edenderry and Naas, highlighting the strong nationwide interest in Masters-level competition. The teams themselves were made up of a mix of players currently competing in the league, those playing socially, and others who dust off their volleyball gear for this once-a-year event – adding to the unique atmosphere of the day.
The day featured a high standard of play throughout, with plenty of closely contested matches played in great spirit across all courts. Just as importantly, we got through the entire day without any serious injuries – always a result at Masters level! That said, there may be a few sore legs and stiff backs knocking around today after a full day of action, but all part of the fun.
Following an impressive run in the group stages, Dig Me Up (Balbriggan) progressed to the final unbeaten, where they faced Octo Legends – a combined side featuring current and former players from Santry, Aer Lingus and invited guests. In a tight best-of-three final, Dig Me Up emerged as champions, with Octo Legends putting in a strong performance as runners-up.
The tournament concluded with a presentation held upstairs at the venue, recognising both the winners and runners-up and marking a successful day of volleyball for all involved.
