Italy and Ireland Extend Historic Partnership

The Italian Volleyball President, Giuseppe Manfredi has made his first trip to Ireland, as FIPAV and Volleyball Ireland confirm an extension to the innovative development partnership.

President Manfredi held positive meetings with Volleyball Ireland President Clodagh NicCanna, as both Federations intend to build on the progress made in the last two years, which has included player development supports through the famous Club Italia programme, Coach Education workshops with the renowned Marco Mencarelli and Referee Development classes with Olympic Official Daniele Rapisarda.

President Manfredi then discussed further supports with representatives from Sport Ireland, the Olympic Federation of Ireland, and officials from the Department of Sport. As well as outlining his vision for the future. Before a visit to the Italian Embassy where Ambassador to Ireland, Mr Ruggero Corrias, offered some suggestions to celebrate Italy’s volleyball heritage, here in Ireland.

President Manfredi reflected on the visit, “It has been a successful trip to Ireland. Volleyball Ireland is showing good growth and improving results, we are delighted to extend our support and build the programme further helping take Ireland to the next level. I have been impressed with Volleyball Ireland’s energy, ambition and strategy for the future. I see huge potential for the Federation.”

Volleyball Ireland President Clodagh NicCanna added, “We have been delighted and honoured to welcome President Manfredi to Dublin. We’ve spent the last two days strengthening our relationship, sharing some exciting ideas for the future, and learning from one of the most inspiring leaders in Volleyball. The support President Manfredi and FIPAV have provided Volleyball Ireland is incredible, and we can’t wait to get started on phase 2.”

Some of the concepts include the development of S3 style youth events and festivals to promote the sport, as well as further high-performance experiences for youth teams and coaches.
