Melissa Cheviron and Luana Chagas dominated the Women’s 3* VLY Beach Tour Finals on Saturday, at a sun-drenched Burrow Beach, Sutton.
The pair, who both coach on the Volleyball Ireland Beach Development Centre programme were too strong for regular tour winners Giedre & Zydre Guobyte, running out 21-10, 21-17 winners. The victory means it’s 3-in-a-row for Cheviron.
Miriam Gormally and Paola Rosas took bronze.
In the Men’s side, Marcin Szklarek & Felipe Viana went toe-to-toe with Northern Ireland’s Jonathan Workman and Jeff Scott, with the match going to a tie-break before Szklarek’s domination at the net proved the difference for a 21-17, 19-21, 15-10 win.
Antanas Capskis and Martin Bergmann took 3rd place overcoming Piotr Piecek and Gavin McCaughern in another tie-break 21-19, 16-21, 15-4. It was the third three setter out of 4 matches for Capskis and Bergmann who had a busy day. It could have easily been different for the duo had teenage pair Ciagan Davoren and Liam Corcoran won one of their three match points in the day’s first match.
The Sutton event wraps up the 2023 tour. A huge thanks is put on record to the VLY Beach Tour Referee team of Dave Dalton and Aurelien Gimenez who have officiated at every event this season- a mammoth job.
