19 year-olds Ellen Creighton & Lara McNichols pushed Northern Ireland all the way losing out on a place in the knock outs in agonising fashion 21-18, 13-21, 14-16. Some great positives to take after an earlier awakening at the hands of top seeds and Commonwealth Games stars Lynne Beattie & Mel Coutts 21-5, 21-6.

17 year-olds Laura Connolly & Amy O’Sullivan fought admirably in their pool matches losing out 21-18, 21-18 to Teanna Mills & Rachael Montgomery of NIR and then 21-10, 21-15 to Miriam and Kama’s next opponents Barbour & McReady.

Thursday June 2nd | Lulu Names Three Teams for Small Countries

Head Coach Lulu Sombrah has named three teams for the Small Countries Association Championships in Ayr, Scotland this weekend.

Experienced duo Miriam Gormally & Kamila Teterycz will lead the contingent, alongside two youth teams. Teenage pair Ellen Creighton & Lara McNichols will make their International debut, along with 17-year old duo Laura Connolly & Amy O’Sullivan – who are coming to the sand off the back of a silver medal win in the u19 Small Countries Championships. They also featured strongly in Iceland for Mark Delahunty’s Senior side only three weeks ago.

Coach Lulu Sombrah is using the tournament to develop experience in these youngsters, she said, “Whilst we haven’t had much competitive Volleyball this season the girls are very excited to get going. We have intentionally picked two young teams to give them a taste of international volleyball and build for the future. This is very much a learning mission for us this weekend.”

Ellen & Lara get the tournament underway with a massive test against the top seeds Lynne Beattie and Mel Coutts, whilst Laura and Amy take on Scotland’s number 2 team of Barbour & Morrison. Miriam and Kama entertain the highly fancied Finland.
