Clodagh Elected to CEV Board

Volleyball Ireland President Clodagh Nic Canna has been elected to the Board of European Volleyball.

Clodagh was chosen by new President Roko Sikiric as one of his three automatic picks for the board, and will take up the role of Executive Vice President of the Confederation de Europeene Volleyball. Clodagh becomes Ireland’s first ever representative at the top table of European Volleyball governance.

The historic elections, held in Naples (Saturday August 24) resulted in the appointment of Croatia’s Sikiric as CEV President in round two of the poll, eventually winning 36 of 53 votes.

Nic Canna was delighted to be selected by Sikiric commenting, “It’s a great privilege and honour to serve European Volleyball. Volleyball has been my passion since I was thirteen years old. I’m looking forward to playing a leading role in the new era of our sport.”

The Dubliner has been President of Volleyball Ireland for just over three years, leading the strategic growth of the organisation which included the hosting of the recent u20 Women’s European Championship – the first time a member of the Small Countries Zonal Association hosted an event of this size. She is a national grade referee and has previously held roles on several commissions and within Volleyball Ireland clubs.

Volleyball Ireland Chief Executive Gary Stewart added, “Clodagh was the perfect candidate for the Board of Administration with a great blend of professional experience and Volleyball passion. Anyone that knows Clodagh understands she always works with integrity and a growth mindset. On a personal level I’m delighted for her, but also excited that European Volleyball has someone of her calibre in an important decision making position.”

Scotland’s Margaret Ann Fleming MBE and Gibraltar’s Emma Labrador were also elected from the Small Countries Association Zone.
