Fás Éireann: Rooted in Heritage. Growing Our Future.

Volleyball Ireland is proud to launch Fás Éireann, a new development initiative designed to strengthen the pathway for our youth national teams and enhance the long-term growth of Irish volleyball, by providing more competition.

The name Fás Éireann comes from the Irish word fás, meaning growth or development, and reflects both the progression of our athletes and the continued rise of the sport across the country. It symbolises the journey our young players take from their local club to representing Ireland on the international stage.

Inspired by Ireland’s First Written Language

Fás Éireann continues the storytelling introduced in our national team kit reveal, where Ogham, Ireland’s earliest known form of writing, was used as a visual backbone. Ogham marks a deep connection to our heritage and identity, while Fás connects to our future.

From the first marks of Irish identity to the growth of our next generation.

A New Competitive Platform for U18 & U20 National Squads

Beginning this weekend, our U18 and U20 National Squads will step into the National League, competing against teams from the Premier Division and Division 1.

This is a major step forward in giving our young internationals the regular, high-level competition they need to grow:

  •  More matches

  •  Higher-quality opponents

  •  Increased tactical and physical challenge

  •  Greater exposure to senior-level volleyball

By facing experienced club teams month after month, our players will learn, adapt, and mature faster, helping them transition more smoothly into senior international competition.

Building Towards Major Events

The Fás Éireann programme is not only about monthly competition; it’s a long-term investment in performance.

These league matches form a crucial stepping-stone as the squads prepare for:

  • SCA (Small Countries Association Championships)

  • St Patrick’s Challenge

  • 4 Nations Tournament

Rooted in Heritage. Growing Our Future.

Fás Éireann represents a new chapter for Volleyball Ireland.

It is a programme built on cultural pride, athletic ambition, and the unwavering commitment to invest in our youth. By combining high-quality competition with a strong national identity, we are creating an environment where Ireland’s next generation of volleyball players can flourish.

As our U18 and U20 teams take their first steps into the National League this weekend, we invite and encourage the volleyball community to follow and support their journey. A journey grounded in heritage and inspired by growth.
