Influential Women | Grainne Culliton

Grainne Culliton has provided tireless leadership and governance to Volleyball Ireland for several years, including leading the organisation as National President.

During this time Grainne has driven the sport in a strategic manner leading with an infectious energy, enthusiasm, and vision for the sport. She has instilled a culture of continuous improvement that has seen significant growth in participation and revenues for the organisation.

A key success of Grainne’s tenure as President was the vision to host the 2019 Continental Cup in Bettystown, which led to the creation of a pop-up stadium in County Meath and the participation of eight different nations.

The event was symptomatic of Grainne’s vision for an ambitious organisation that doesn’t accept that it cannot achieve great things. This mentality has given belief to the staff and volunteers that operate within it. Ultimately giving belief and confidence is the most important leadership trait of all and Grainne has demonstrated this trust in abundance.

Whilst she is a very strategic, big picture thinker, she epitomises hard work. She has given a tireless amount of time to the sport both within the Board of Volleyball Ireland and her club Ballymun Patriots, whether that is through developing an Audit Committee or digging holes in sand she is always willing to roll up the sleeves.

Grainne is in the final stretch of her last term as President and is leaving the sport in a much stronger place than when she took on the baton. One of her biggest legacies is the culture of inclusivity she has instilled, and a belief that every person has a place and a role to play within the Volleyball family.
