Volleyball Ireland were delighted to team up with Student Sport Ireland and SETU Carlow for the 2025 Intervarsities.
What a weekend of Volleyball it was with both defending champions, The University of Galway (Men) and Trinity College Dublin (Women) doing what was needed over the three days to firmly establish themselves as the top University ballers in Ireland.
Let’s hear from some of the top performers down in Carlow.
Peter McGlynn, University of Galway
2025 Intervarsity All Star
“Coming into the tournament as back-to-back champions with what we felt was our strongest team yet, we were confident. However, a slow start on day 1 made us realise that the competition had stepped up significantly. We knew we had to reset and play the volleyball we were capable of. As the tournament progressed, we found our rhythm and came together as a team. Our hard work paid off in a very exciting final against TUD, where we clinched our third consecutive title.”
Eimear Byrne, Dublin City University
2025 Intervarsity All Star
Intervarsities was a fantastic experience for our DCU team and a wonderful opportunity to play amongst other college teams at such a high level of volleyball. After a challenging start to the weekend with a loss to TUD, we fought hard in each match, securing a place in the final against TCD. Despite our efforts and teamwork, we finished as runners up in a gripping final, but were still thrilled to have participated in an incredible tournament which has brought our team even closer!
Cillian O’Riordain, University of Limerick
Chairperson UL Volleyball, 2025 DOUBLE Plate Champions
“The whole experience was great for team bonding! Every individual showed great character and everyone grew as players and as people. There some soul crushing lows but sky breaking highs and even better both teams took home a trophy. A voice breaking experience for sure”
