Ireland’s Snr Women’s finished 5th at the Small Countries Association Championships at the weekend.
Ireland opened their campaign with a tough match against the hosts Luxembourg losing out 3:0 (25-13, 25-5, 30-28). A tight 3-2 defeat against Malta in game two wiped out any chances of a medal shot with the girls in green going down 25-23, 24-26, 19-25, 25-22, 10-15.
Mark Delahunty’s side came back strong against Northern Ireland with an emphatic performance cruising to a 3nil win 25-20, 27-25, 25-19.
Iceland were the overall champions winning a nail-biter with Scotland 15-12 in the fifth, to reverse a similar 3:2 pool defeat on Friday.
Volleyball Ireland would like to express our gratitude to the Federation of Luxembourg for hosting another brilliant event.
