Ireland to Host Small Countries Event

Ireland will host the 2022 Under 20 Men’s CEV Small Countries Association Championships.

The 5 team tournament will be held at Gormanston Park over the week of April 11-15th and will feature Andorra, Luxembourg, Faroe Islands, Northern Ireland and Ireland.

The event is the first Small Countries Championship held in Ireland for some time and will give the likes of Cathal Dwyer, Cian Humphreys and Ciagan Davoren a chance to perform in front of  a home crowd. Men’s National Team Head Coach Andrei Molnar said, “We are really excited about the chance to compete on home soil with our young team. It will be great to see Ireland playing in front of a loud Irish crowd and I know from all the hard the boys have put in, they will do us proud.”

The tournament will coincide with a Development Centre camp at the same venue, allowing younger players the chance to see their elders in full flow. As well as refereeing clinics and Coach Education workshops.

Volleyball Ireland President Clodagh NicCanna added, “There will be a real buzz seeing Ireland host and compete in this Championship on home soil. I know the lads and the Coaching team have been working so hard preparing for the tournament, and I really can’t wait to see them in action. Hosting International events is a key part of our strategy to raise the profile of the sport and to inspire young players into Volleyball.”

A volunteer recruitment drive will commence in the New Year with a number of key roles available. If you’re interested in helping out at the event please drop an email to simon@volleyballireland.com with the subject: u20M SCA Volunteer.
