Ireland’s under 18 Women’s team have won silver at this year’s Small Countries Association Championships.
Back to back wins over Scotland (3-2) and Northern Ireland (3-0) was enough to secure second, after an opening day defeat to hosts and champions Malta.
Dalkey Devils’ Angela Mulcahy was the standout player, earning the tournament’s ‘Best Opposite Award’. Mulcahy said, “I’m really delighted to help the team win this medal, and bring silver back for Volleyball Ireland.”
Galway outside hitter Jess Hackett also impressed adding, “We felt much more of a team this year, we were more connected and played really together, delighted to win the silver.” Ballymun Patriots Zara King also had a fine weekend with a range of quality serves giving her team momentum at key times. King emphasised the importance of the training camp with Manu Benelli on the squad’s improved performance, “We deserved this as we worked so hard as a team together especially with the camp Italy before hand.”
Volleyball Ireland would like to thank the volunteer coaching staff for their hard work and dedication working with the squad, as well as the Malta Volleyball Association for organising this year’s event.
