Junior School Championships 2024

The Junior Schools Championships will be held on April 22nd at the stunning UL Sports Arena, Limerick.

Junior Volleyball got underway in January and after 446 matches we now have confirmed the 2024 FINALISTS.

Girls A Final ( 1.30pm Warm up)

Portlaoise College VS Presentation Kilkenny

Surprisingly neither of these volleyball schools have appeared in recent Division A finals despite some formidable teams year after year. Portlaoise have been here before back in 2016 and it has been 17 years since the Kilkenny school took home the title of A champions at this age.  Adding to the tension on the day is the fact that this is the first ever meeting of these schools at a Junior Final in any division.

Boys Cup Final ( 12pm warm up)

St Vincent’s College VS Sutton Park School

St Vincent’s continue to go from strength to strength. It’s yet another final for the Castleknock school. After securing the U16 B title in January the school will aim to bring home the A when they take to the court on Monday. They face their Dublin neighbours Sutton Park School. A team that has been there and done that at finals as recently as January. They have never won the Junior and will hope to rectify that next week.

Girls B Division (10.30am Warm up)

Coláiste Bhaile Chláir VS Rockford Manor

A new school making huge strides is Claregalway. They have had a fantastic season which they would like  to finish in style come Monday. After dispatching teams from Galway, Mayo, Laois and Carlow in recent rounds they will need to come up with one more victory to get themselves into the history books. Standing in their way is none other than Rockford Manor. A team often found on finals day at the older age groups is making its first ever appearance at Junior.

Boys Shield Final (10.30 Warm up)

Grange CC VS Pipers Hill College

An all Leinster final for the boys Shield in 2024. Grange of course our defending champions will not relinquish the title that easily but they do face a stern test in the Kildare school, Piper’s Hill who will be flying high after an exciting and extremely close semi final win.

Girls C Division Final ( 12.30pm Warm up)

St Brigid’s College VS Scoil Chriost Ri

St Brigid’s College we recognise from previous final days. Having amassed titles and appearances across all other Junior divisions. The school will be delighted to add this particular one to the list. Scoil Chriost Ri, Portlaoise are hoping for one better this season. They took home GOLD in the D final last time out and have been putting on some very strong performances to earn their place next week.

Girls D Final ( 1.30 Warm up)

Coachford College VS Scoil Chriost Ri

It’s a battle of the previous champions. 21-22 champions from Cork, Coachford College will be looking to retain the title after a year out in which Scoil Chriost Ri took the cup back to Portlaoise. Either way a exciting final is sure to play out as both teams have impressed on their journeys to the last day!

VLY. would like to highlight and congratulate the Barrett family on a special moment that will take place next Monday. Both mother (Mary – St Brigid’s College) and daughter (Melissa -Coláiste Bhaile Chláir) will oversee their teams as head coaches at the same finals! A first time we believe for volleyball. (Luckily they won’t be facing each other!!!)

All games will be LIVE Streamed on Volleyball Ireland youtube channel
