National League Week 2 Round-Up

Action from Santry Rebels vs Santry Sparks

Week 2 of the National League saw another 34 matches played across the country, with a number of teams already breaking away from the pack in their own divisions.

In the Women’s Premier Division, Calypso, Gardians and DVC Lions made it two wins from two, with victories against Galway, Munster Thunder and UCD respectively.  In the Men’s Premier, Tallaght Rockets were taken to five sets by Aer Lingus but came out on top, with Dalkey Devils the only other unbeaten side, who beat Trinity in 3 sets.

In Division 1, we have three teams in the women’s competition who have won two out of two, with Balbriggan Flames, Dalkey Devils and SETU Carlow maintaining their 100% records but, with the Flames and Devils playing each other in week 3, one of them will record their first loss.  The all Santry affair resulted in a win for Sparks, with both sides now with one win and a loss.  At the other end of the table, defeats for Impact Macroom, Tallaght Rockets and BMP Valkyries mean that all three are still searching for a first win.  In the men’s competition, Balbriggan Broncos and Gardians Masters remain the only unbeaten sides.

In Division 2, there are only two teams with a 100% record, with IVI Vixens and Naas Vipers leading the race so far, with wins against Gardians Pandas and Dalkey Aces respectively.  Both of Vipers wins have come in 5 sets, so I’m sure will be hoping for a more comfortable result in their next match.  Vixens have a chance to make it 3 out of 3 this weekend in their visit to Aer Lingus Kestrels.  In D2 for men, 7 of the 23 teams have recorded two wins, including new NL team Jackals, winners of D3 last year.  They put their perfect record on the line this weekend against BMP Titans, who have also 2 wins to their name so far, so one of them will record their first loss on Saturday.

Week 2 also saw the start of the Division 3 season, and there were wins in the men’s competition for Celestials, IADT Turtles and Volleywoodstars.

Week 3 sees another 31 matches down for decision, so check out our live scores here and for a full break down of all competition results, click here
