New Coach Development Programme

Volleyball Ireland launch New Coach Development Programme

Volleyball Ireland today launch a new three tiered Coach Development Programme – with appropriate learning and development opportunities for new coaches as well as those with more experience.

Each tier is supported by a different core partner of Volleyball Ireland including Sport Ireland, the Confederation of European Volleyball (CEV) and the Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB).

Coach Education & Player Pathways Coordinator Conor Flood said, “We are really excited to open applications for this new programme which is a blend of mentoring, online learning, inspirational talks and practical workshops, with the aim to support and develop our coaches at all levels of the game. The three tiered approached ensures all coaches can reach their maximum potential and the content complements our formal course programme. This is a great opportunity to network and share ideas with other coaches.”

Sport Ireland’s support will focus on the new coaches and is in part funded by the Women in Sport Programme. The middle tier is linked to the CEV Participation to Performance Programme which has supported the creation of the Youth National League, and the FIVB Projects Platform support will part fund the Advanced Coaches initiative. This level of the programme will see an FIVB approved International coach delivering a range of workshops to the more experienced coaches in Ireland.

Conor added, “Working with our stakeholders is really important to help us maximise resources and tap into the expertise that our partners can offer.”

There are three tiers to the programme with opportunities for;
New coaches; those who have less than two years coaching experience or players who are considering transitioning into coaching. Aspects of the programme are supported by Sport Ireland Women in Sport funding. The course is tutored by a number of established coaches based in Ireland.

Intermediate level coaches; coaches who have recently started their career and have two or more years on court experience. This element of the programme is supported through the CEV Development Participation to Performance Programme and is suitable for coaches operating in the Youth National League. The course is led by advanced coaches including Volleyball Ireland National Team coaches.

Advanced coaches; who have been involved in Volleyball for several years. This programme is supported through the FIVB Projects Platform, which will see an International Coach Tutor deliver a series of workshops and practical sessions.

Volleyball Ireland would like thank Sport Ireland and the Women in Sport team, Sport Ireland Coaching, CEV and FIVB for their help and support developing this initiative.
