Ireland is hosting the u20 Women’s European Championship Finals this August. Some of the world’s best young talents coming to Dublin! It will the biggest Volleyball event ever held in this country.
We have an exciting opportunity for Volleyball Ireland Referees to officiate at this historic event.
With 28 matches, spread across seven days, we are opening expressions of interest from licensed VLY. Officials to become European Championship line judges and scorers. 1st and 2nd Referees will be appointed by European Volleyball.

Volleyball Ireland’s Referees Management Committee Chair, and International Referee Giordano Dos Santos encouraged referees to sign up, “Officiating in a European Championships is a great opportunity , that doesn’t come around too often. It will be the best view in the house and a rare chance to be on court at the highest level of the sport. I highly recommend anyone interested registers now!”

To best prepare officials for August we have identified a number of ‘test’ events that will have a similar setup and atmosphere to the European Championship finals. These are: U20 Men’s SCA Finals January 26-28th, the St. Patrick’s Challenge matches with Northern Ireland March 16th, and the VLY. Cup Finals Weekend May 3-5th.

These events provide a great opportunity to officiate at spectator events. Anyone wishing to officiate in August at the Euro Volley Finals, should consider their availability for these upcoming weekend events.

All of these test events and the finals will be held at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena, Blanchardstown, Dublin.

Volleyball Ireland Development Manager Conor Flood added, “A legacy programme will ensure that the event has lasting impact, with coach education courses and various programmes to inspire young players. But one of our big opportunities is around match officials and providing an amazing experience to learn, develop and grow.”

The European Championships will run from August 5th to 13th, with rest days on August 8th and 11th. Officials aren’t expected to be available on every date. We envisage officials will participate in one or two games on the days they’re available.

Organising and delivering this event is a huge challenge for our community, but one that is achievable with many opportunities for long lasting impact and growth for the sport here in Volleyball. We are incredibly proud to host this event and indebted to our volunteers that will make it happen.

If you have any questions before you complete the expression of interest please reach out. If you’d like to volunteer in another role then a special general volunteer portal will be opening in February.
