Volleyball Ireland joins the global volleyball community in mourning the passing of Aleksandar Boričić, former CEV President, who died on March 4 in his native Belgrade following a short illness. His loss is deeply felt across our sport.
President Boričić was a towering figure in European and world volleyball. As a former player and coach, long‑serving President of the National Federation of Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro, and later Serbia, and as CEV President from 2015 to 2024, he dedicated his life to the growth, unity, and excellence of our game. His leadership extended globally through his role as 2nd FIVB Executive Vice-President, where his influence helped shape the modern era of volleyball.
Volleyball Ireland had the privilege of welcoming President Boričić to Dublin in 2022 as a guest of honour at our 50th anniversary celebrations. His presence, warmth, and encouragement meant a great deal to our community, and his support for smaller and developing federations was a hallmark of his presidency.
On behalf of Volleyball Ireland, President Clodagh Nic Canna extends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and to the Serbian Volleyball Federation. We are grateful for his lifelong service to the sport we all love, and we honour his legacy with deep respect.
His passion for volleyball was unmistakable. He truly lived and breathed the game, and his impact will continue to be felt across Europe and beyond for generations.
