Santry edge UCD in Classic

Santry Calypso continued their unbeaten start to the Premier Women’s Division with a thrilling victory against UCD.

The Northsiders five-set win was nothing but a classic between two highly rated teams. Both of whom will be fancying their chances to make the end of season top3 playoffs.

The match was evenly contested throughout with the first two sets closely fought and the next two comfortable, before a tight and edgy fifth set went the way of the home team.

UCD came out strong edging the first set by three points 22-25, before Calypso reversed that 25-23. UCD stormed back dominating the second 25-15 before the match flipped on its head once more. This time Santry dominating 25-10.

With everything on the line, the fifth set lived up to expectations with the home side clinching victory 15-13.

Gardians are the other unbeaten team in the Women’s Premier with a routine win over Naas 3:0 whilst Trinity fell to their third successive defeat at home to Santry Premier – which rounded off a great weekend for the Artane Beaumont club.

Elsewhere it was another 3:2 reversal for UCD in the Men’s Premier as Aer Lingus set out an early marker in the title race, and Net Force claimed their first National League win at home to DVB Bravo. The third and final Men’s Prem 5-setter featured Galway & DVC Abu with the Dubliners getting over the line to enjoy the long trip home. Meanwhile Trinity despatched Kilkenny in straight sets.
