School Cup Final 2022

What an incredible day of volleyball for the Schools Cup finals in Limerick. If you missed any of the action you can watch it back on our YouTube channel.

Getting us started for the day in the girls was Colaiste Muire and ST Mary’s College, Naas. This was a semi final fixture we had seen earlier in the Senior Championship back in December. Once again, a similar outcome as the Naas side came from a set down to win 15-12 in the deciding set. In semi Final 2 defending champions Holy Family powered their way into the final with a straight sets victory over the St Brigid’s college, Loughrea.

In the Boys semi-final 1 Elphin CC were up against new comers this year Patrician High School from Carrickmacross . An epic match cheered on by plenty of supporters ended with a 15-13 win to the new school and sent them into their first ever volleyball school final. The current senior champions St Brigid’s College, Loughrea also faced a new entry from Kilkenny in Colaiste Pobail Osrai. Once again our spectators were not disappointed as both teams produced some fine volleyball. Showing all their experience in a semi final the Loughrea team got over the line to set a final against Patrician HS.

In the boys final the defending champions Brigid’s had an early shock as PHS snatched the first 25-22. Brigid’s then levelled up one set a piece before PHS took the third 25-21. Brigid’s hit back once more to bring the match 2-2. In the end the new school from Carrickmacross had enough power hitting to take the cup back on the long journey to Monaghan.

The 2022 Girl School Cup  was another repeat of the 2021 Senior Championship. As both teams know each so well, we were in for a lot of rallies and strategic play in order for the coaches to get the best over their opponents.  Holy family raced into a two set lead but a spirited fight back from the Naas in the third stole the set 28-26. This fight back continued into the 4th however Holy Family on the day were just too strong and ended the year on a double as they took the match 3-1.
