School Senior Championship Finals

The VLY. Senior School Championship Finals are set for Wednesday, December 14th at the National Indoor Arena, Dublin. Come join us or watch online via our YouTube channel as Divisions A, B and C crown a new champion for 2022-2023 season.

After last year’s reduced entry events going ahead under restrictions, this year’s school competition sees a full return of our volleyball programme.

109 teams started out the journey back in late September hoping to represent their school on the final day. A jammed packed 319 games were held over the last two months and below are our finalists!

Senior Boys A

St Brigid’s College, Galway VS Patrician High School, Monaghan

This game is sure to excite volleyball enthusiasts. Last year’s Senior Championship winners (St Brigid’s) look to defend their title against last year’s School Cup winners. (Patrician HS).  The sides have met already this year in a group game from which Brigid’s took the win. However, we all know anything can happen on finals Day.

Senior Girls A

Holy Family SS, Kildare VS Colaiste Muire, Clare

Another reigning champion Holy Family SS take to the court to defend their title against Colaiste Muire, Ennis. We are set for a real chess match of a game as the court will be littered with international players on both sides. Both schools have dominated senior titles for the last three events with 2 going west and one heading to Newbridge.

Senior B Boys

Mountrath CS, Laois VS Dungarvan College, Waterford

Two strong volleyball schools will meet again in the final match of the day. For Dungarvan it’s a long awaited return to the senior finals since 2018 and as signs may go, that year they took gold over another Laois school. Mountrath need to go back a few years earlier to 2014 for their last appearance and also a winning performance. Both teams have always been knocking on that door so they will be anxious to get back on the roll of honour and take this year’s title home.

Court 1, warm up 2pm

Senior Girls B

Grange CC, Dublin VS Portlaoise College, Laois

It’s a first Division B final appearance for Grange this year. The school recently got promoted after an U16, 2018 C Division title and have never looked back. Going from strength to strength they will be hoping to add yet another win come Wednesday. Standing in their way however are Portlaoise College, last year’s Senior C champions. A school that will not be there to make up numbers but hoping to re-join the top league in the country as they continue to book their place in finals year after year.

Court 2, warm up 2pm

Senior Boys C

Trinity Comprehensive, Dublin VS Kilkenny City.

Due to the increased demand for school volleyball within the boys category, the Division C championship was newly added for 2022-23.  Fourteen teams took part in the new competition this year and coming through some incredible semi finals were new competitors, Trinity Comprehensive and Kilkenny City VS. A fantastic game to get the day underway as both schools will be hoping to write themselves into the history books.

Senior Girls C

Convent of Mercy, Roscommon VS Kilkenny City.

After bursting onto the scene this year new school Kilkenny City VS are the only representatives with two teams in the finals. They will face a stern test from Convent of Mercy who are no strangers to finals, being part of 2015, 16, 17 and 18 across senior and U16 B and C divisions the last number of years. Having never won the senior B though it’s one trophy they will be going all out for this week.
