The 2024 Senior School Championships mark the first major indoor volleyball finals of the season and with those games just one month away on December 9th , we look back on a busy first term for our schools.
A total of 547 teams have registered in term one and are in the thick of action already in Senior, Under 16 and 4v4 events. It’s been an interesting last few weeks as we have witnessed big names and defending Champions like Davis College eliminated but also a resurgence of volleyball from schools like Rockford Manor.

The CEV Schools Project Education Drive has gone from strength to strength. 319 students have engaged in the short number of weeks up to midterm and with another ten courses booked before the new year, the number of educated students is set to exceed record levels this coming year.
It’s an important season for one of our more experienced coaches as she chases down her 100th!!!!! Championship Title. Mary Barrett from St Brigid’s College, Loughrea has been involved in over 170 finals spanning three decades of coaching and currently sits with 99 wins to her name. From 4v4 to All Ireland Senior titles, Mary has won it all and with all her teams still contesting in the 2024 – 25 season it would be of no surprise that she reaches this incredible milestone this year!
In other exciting news Volleyball Ireland are launching a new SMASH VOLLEY programme aimed to bring even younger players into our sport. Smash Volley pilot events are being scheduled nationwide with the first taking place this Monday November 11th in Cork. Stay tuned for videos and pictures of that new programme over the next few weeks.
Although it has been a busy start to the year, Terms 2 and 3 promise even more education, fun events and titles to be won!
