1: Ireland host u20 Women’s European Championship (80%)
The 8 team tournament saw some incredible volleyball action with Italy, Poland, Serbia, Ukraine, Czechia, Finland, Portugal, and of course Team Ireland wowing the crowds at the Sport Ireland Campus. What an amazing experience, as Ireland became the first member of the Small Countries Association to host a European Championship Finals.
2: Ireland u20 Men Win Bronze (45%)
Alessandra Trio’s young guns played with style and speed in Dublin, winning an exciting and edgy match with Northern Ireland to confirm bronze. Scotland went on to win gold.
3: Poland v Italy (44%)
Arguable the best match ever held in Ireland. The level was unreal with both teams going toe-to-toe in a 5set thriller, with an incredible atmosphere. Italy edged it.
4: Buzz! (40%)
VLY.’s new mascot Buzz entertained crowds at matches, events and online – with their new AI generated ‘Ask Buzz’ feature. Feel the Buzz!!
5: Ireland’s Junior Girls win Silver (38%)
Matt Hanlon’s u18s were impressive with wins over Scotland and Northern Ireland, whilst hosts Malta claimed gold in the SCA Championships.
6: Electronic Live Scoring for the National League (37%)
Who knew digitalisation could be so much fun? E-score replaces the traditional paper scoresheets and means matches can be tracked live and league tables updated instantaneously.
7: Ogham (27%)
In August we revealed a new national team identity – with match kits designed integrating the team’s vision statement and Ogham – the first written language of Ireland to create a cool and unique match kit. The kit was designed by our new partners Nine Squared.
8. Cup Finals Weekend (27%)
The Association Cup Finals went up several levels this year. Held at the impressive Sport Ireland Campus with LED sponsor boards and a terraflex Volleyball floor. What a great weekend.
9. Snr. Women Win in San Marino (23%)
Mark Delahunty’s team won a memorable tie break with Northern Ireland to win bronze, and our first Snr. SCA medal.
10. The Legend’s Match (18%)
What better way to kick off the Cup Finals Weekend than by bringing back legends of Irish Volleyball, to christen our new Volleyball floor! What a great evening of nostalgia and reunion!
