u20 Men’s Head Coach Appointed

Antonio Barros has been appointed as Ireland’s new u20 Men’s Head Coach.

The Portugese native has been coaching the Cork Volleyball Academy for some time, building a strong youth programme in the Rebel County. Prior to this, the level 3 coach played and coached professionally in Portugal.

A proud Antonio commented, “I am honoured and glad to take this position of u20 Head Coach. I am excited to be appointed and proud to represent Ireland and this great Volleyball community. My goal is to develop and raise the quality and understanding of our game. I believe with unity, desire and ambition we can achieve our best.”

Antonio will began work this Sunday in Maynooth, with the St Patrick’s Challenge in Belfast on the agenda for March, as well as the Small Countries Championships in Andorra.

Commenting on the news, Volleyball Ireland Director for the High Performance Commission Stephen Moreton said, “It’s great to have someone of Antonio’s calibre on board to help drive on the great work Andrei has done with the youth team. It’s an exciting time to be involved in the programme with more and more opportunities, supports and tournaments ahead.”

Andrei Molnar will continue to lead the Senior & u22 Men’s programme.
