u22 Euro Beach Volley

Liam Corcoran and Conor Kelly made history today, as the first ever Irish players to compete at the age group European Beach Volleyball Championships.

The pair’s opener was a 2nil defeat to a strong Croatia in sweltering 35 degree heat, before an agonising 3-set loss to Northern Ireland (16-21, 23-21, 13-15). That defeat left Ireland, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Greece and Croatia out of the tournament with Kosovo and Slovakia progressing to the main draw, and the main square area in Timisaora.

The lads, who are accompanied by Head Coach Luciana Sombrah are making the most of the opportunity with challenge matches setup over the next couple of days and training clinics was some world class teams and coaches.

Corcoran, who is still only 19 will be in contention for the u20 EuroBeach Volley in Latvia towards the end of August, as well as the Small Countries Association Championships in Scotland.
