Vacancy: Head Youth Coach & Coach Developer

Thanks to funding from the FIVB and support from Sport Ireland, we are inviting applications for an exciting full time role as Volleyball Ireland’s Youth Head Coach & Coach Developer.

We are now ready to employ an energetic, passionate and highly qualified youth coach to help continue the sport’s rise, raising on court standards across the Irish system.

 

The Youth Head Coach & Coach Developer will mentor and support our voluntary coaches who operate within our National Teams and Development Centres, as well as providing coach education programmes throughout our club and community network.

 

The Youth Head Coach & Coach Developer will work day-to-day with our junior players and coaches, improving standards across the pathway.  We see this role having a real impact from grassroots participation to high performance.

The Youth Head Coach & Coach Developer will be an important position with the privilege of impacting strategy through engagement with the Volleyball Ireland board and commissions and will be in the enviable position of making a real difference to communities, clubs and people across Ireland.

 

This is an opportunity to leave a significant impact on a growing and ambitious Federation, which was named the NGB of the Year at the Irish Sport Industry Awards and presented as the CEV best practice National Federation in 2021.

The Head Youth Coach will take charge of the u20 Women’s team as they compete in the 2024 European Championships finals in Ireland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of a performance system that aids player and coach Education programmes
  • Establish a progressive player pathway, giving Irish players the best chance to reach their potential and perform at a high level
  • Be a role model that sets a positive culture of continuous development and education
  • Deliver high-level coaching sessions to young players within Volleyball Ireland’s performance pathway
  • Act as Head Coach of Ireland’s u20 Women’s team, as they compete in the 2024 European Championship finals
  • Working closely with the Performance Pathways Manager & the Development Manager to ensure that Volleyball Ireland’s Long Term Player Development model is being implemented at all levels of the sport.
  • Ensure the quality delivery of services and efficient operations of the Performance & Pathways Department that oversees National Team and Player Development activities
  • To play a key role on the High-Performance Commission to ensure that the High Performance Framework is being delivered effectively
  • Support all National Team Head Coaches to develop strategic and operational plans for each programme
  • Mentor and develop Development Centre coaches and youth national team coaches
  • Develop a process and programme for Talent ID, as well as a standardised system of monitoring physical and technical ability
  • Provide recommendations for improvements across all national team programmes
  • Implement a range of educational workshops to upskill and develop community and club coaches across Ireland
  • To develop relationships and partnerships with other National Federations and professional clubs
  • To organise and oversee the implementation of Performance Camps both in Ireland and abroad
  • To work with the Education & Training Commission to identify areas of development of the Coaching pathway.
  • To provide key support to the Performance & Pathways Manager in regards to strategic planning and operational implementation of annual plans
  • Foster strong relationships with the VLY Board, Commissions and the wider Volleyball community in addition to external representatives of funding bodies and of other organisations associated with Volleyball Ireland
  • Ensure the correct implementation of key policies and processes such as the Complaints & Disciplinary Policy, National Team Player Agreement

 

*Ireland will compete in the final round of the u20 European Championships, to be held in August 2024.

 

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Proven experience coaching high-level Volleyball either domestically or internationally
  • Extensive experience coaching young players, ideally at National Federation level
  • Qualified to FIVB L2 or National Federation equivalent
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire teams in the delivery of sports programmes, events and activities in line with strategic objectives
  • Experience in contributing to budgeting processes and delivering programme, events and activities in line with budgets
  • Knowledge of key principles of good governance processes
  • Knowledge of the sporting sector and how it operates

Terms, Conditions & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary with applicable bonus
  • Two year contract with opportunity for renewal subject to funding
  • Ideally this role is a full-time position, however consideration will be given to the right candidate operating on a part-time basis
