Today, Sport Ireland announced a 36 million euro package for National Governing Bodies of Sport, High Performance Sport and Local Sports Partnerships for the coming year. Speaking at the announcement, Sport Ireland CEO, John Treacy said, “Sport Ireland is delighted to be in a position to provide the majority of performing NGBs and LSPs with another increase in funding for 2020.”
The overall package includes over 10 Million to support the Olympic and Paralympic Athletes ahead of the Tokyo Games.
The increased core grant funding means that Volleyball Ireland’s Government grant support has now risen to 270k, broken down as follows:
210,000 – core activities
25,000 – women in sport specific programmes
35,000 – inclusion specific programmes
Volleyball Ireland will shortly be announcing details of a Volleyball Activator programme to help support clubs to run social and recreational volleyball programmes, as well as setup youth sections.
Commenting on the announcement, Volleyball Ireland GM, Gary Stewart added, “We’re delighted to see an increase to our core grant and other Sport Ireland funding supports – it’s great recognition of the hard work that clubs, volunteers, coaches, commissions and players are putting in across the country. We’ve made some great progress in 2019 towards our strategic goals and look forward to using this money on some exciting programmes in 2020.”
