VLY Receives Funding Boost

Volleyball Ireland will receive 200k in Covid specific re-start funding.

Volleyball Ireland’s Covid Re-Start programme will ensure that Volleyball Ireland and its member clubs can resume activity and continue to make an important and significant contribution to the health and wellbeing of the nation. The programmes this funding will deliver will result in a short term boost, as well as a positive medium and long term contribution to public health.

Volleyball Ireland’s Covid Re-Start programme will focus on the following key areas:

• Back to Volunteering: getting more coaches and more referees back into the game
• Back to School: getting more schools playing Volleyball, linking with more clubs
• Back to the Club: kick starting clubs with support for equipment, social volleyball and youth coaching
• Back to Development: supporting the creation of a regional Development Centre programme and performance pathway
• Back to the Spotlight: investment in promotional supports that will get Volleyball national coverage and support clubs to promote their activities online through an innovative live streaming programme
• Back to Play: remove financial barrier to players participation by waiving player fees for 2021/22 season.

Commenting on the funding announcement General Manager Gary Stewart said, “We’re obviously delighted with this support from Sport Ireland and Government – it will really allow us to support our clubs, players, coaches and referees and get Volleyball fully activated nationwide again. We’ve proposed a detailed action plan for this funding that we know will have short term benefits and a long term positive impact on the sport.”

Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin TD said: “As a nation so fond of sports, we are very supportive of our clubs, our competitors and of course everyone who enjoys physical activity. But the last two years have been two of the most challenging for all sports organisations and the announcement of this funding will come as a relief for the sports sector.”

Minister of State for Sport and Gaeltacht Affairs Jack Chambers TD, added: “I welcome today’s allocations announced by Sport Ireland, which recognise the immense contribution that sport and physical activity has made to Ireland’s response to the pandemic. All facets of society continue to adjust as the public health situation evolves and our National Governing Bodies, Local Sports Partnership and sports clubs are to be commended on how they have adapted. Government understands that this has been challenging for all and the funding allocated today will assist the sector as it continues to play an important role in supporting all members of society getting and staying active.”

Details on the specific Back to Volleyball programmes will be announced in the New Year.

Volleyball Ireland would like to thank Sport Ireland as well as Minister Catherine Martin & Minister Jack Chambers for their continued support.
