Volleyball Ireland win Good Governance Award
Volleyball Ireland have become the first sporting body to win the Annual Report accolade at the Good Governance Awards. The Awards which celebrate Governance excellence in the non-profit sector have attracted high profile entries from the likes of the Marie Keating Foundation, Concern Worldwide and Oxfam Ireland, as well as 15 entries from other National Governing Bodies of Sport.
General Manager of Volleyball Ireland, Gary Stewart said “the 2020/21 annual report was a real team effort from the Board, Staff and Commissions and I’m thrilled it’s been recognised by industry experts. We are really humbled and honoured to be the first sports body to win this prize.”
Volleyball Ireland fought off strong competition in the Category 3 section (turnover less than €1million), from the Dublin Volunteer Centre and Children’s Rights Alliance to join other winners such as Central Remedial Clinic, Jigsaw and Marie Keating Foundation.
Chairperson and President of Volleyball Ireland Clodagh NicCanna commented, “Governance is the bedrock of all organisations and having a strong foundation is key to ensuring growth and development of the sport. At the start of the year we made a conscious effort to produce the best Annual Report we could, that would demonstrate the breadth of work that the staff and volunteers deliver for the sport. We feel our members, funders and partners deserve real honesty and transparency.”
Volleyball Ireland would like to thank organisers the Carmichael Centre as well as all supporting organisations, judges and entrants, as well as our Auditors Searing Point for their work.
The Good Governance Awards, which are held every year seek to;
- Acknowledge, encourage and promote good governance practice in the area of annual reports and others areas of good governance practice.
- Support and encourage the nonprofit sector to use their annual reports and financial statements to showcase their embracement of and adherence to good governance.
- Provide practical examples to other organisations as to what an excellent or very good director’s report and financial statements look like.
