Volleyball Ireland’s National League Season Getting Underway After Record Year of Growth

After a summer of preparation, and hard work, Volleyball Ireland’s National League returns this weekend — and it does so on the back of one of the sport’s most successful years to date.

Across the 2024–2025 season, volleyball in Ireland has seen remarkable growth at every level of the game. Compared to this time last year, the number of referees has increased by 74%, coaches by 28%, and registered players by 22%.

These figures reflect the continued investment in development programmes, education, and the dedication of volunteers working tirelessly across the country.

As the opening round of the National League serves off, clubs from all over Ireland are ready to showcase the progress made both on and off the court. From new referees taking charge of their first matches to coaches guiding expanded squads, the energy and optimism for the season ahead is at its peak!

“The growth we’ve seen across all areas of volleyball in Ireland is a testament to the passion and commitment of our community. Over the past few years, we’ve seen record increases in the number of referees, coaches, players, and clubs nationwide. This expansion reflects the sport’s growing popularity, the hard work of our volunteers, and the positive culture being built across our clubs. It’s an exciting time for Volleyball Ireland as the game continues to go from strength to strength.”
Conor Flood, Development Manager, Volleyball Ireland

Volleyball Ireland extends its best wishes to all players, coaches, referees, and clubs as the National League season begins. With new talent emerging and participation stronger than ever, the 2025 season promises to be one of the most competitive and exciting yet.

Good luck to everyone taking part — here’s to another season of growth, teamwork, big characters and big moments in volleyball.
