When asked about her proudest volleyball moment, Emma’s response was “I have had many amazing moments throughout my volleyball life, but the moment that stands out the most is getting onto the women’s Irish team as it has been such a dream of mine that I have worked towards for a long time. The way everyone encourages and motivates each other allows me to reach my full potential”. Her favourite thing about competing is “The excitement and thrill from seeing all the hard work pay off and accomplish something I’m proud of. Working as part of a team dynamic and developing close relationship with team mates is also so important. The adrenaline rush after winning a challenging game is the most rewarding feeling” and Emma’s biggest volleyball role model is Jordan Thompson. Like many athletes, Emma does have a pre-game ritual which she tells us consists of “Ensuring I am well rested and have a nutritious breakfast the morning of the game. Before the warm up I take five minutes out to myself to clear my mind and focus on the game and use positive mental imagery of playing each set and winning”.
