u20 Men’s Head Coach Announced

Antonio Barros has been announced as Ireland’s new u20 Men Head Coach.

The Portugese native has been coaching Cork Volleyball Academy for some time, building a strong youth club in the Rebel County.

Before moving to Ireland Antonio competed and coached professionally across Europe and said, “I’m so honoured and glad to be offered the opportunity to coach the u20 National Team.  I am very excited to be appointed to this position and proud to represent Ireland and this great volleyball community.  My goal is to develop and raise the quality of our game with this new generation of Irish players. We can’t forget we are still growing, building a group that plays the right way with a unity and desire to achieve our best.”

The Level 3 qualified coach will work towards the u20 Small Countries Association Championship, to be held in Andorra, as well as the annual St. Patrick’s Challenge match versus Northern Ireland.

Volleyball Ireland High Performance Director Stephen Moreton added, “It’s great to have someone of Antonio’s calibre on board to help drive on the great work Andrei Molnar has done with the youth programme. It’s exciting to be involved in the programme as more opportunities and tournaments arise.”
