VLY. thank all the teams that travelled to the UL Sports Arena to take part in our first 4v4 blitz of 2022. A day of volleyball fun included a total of 55 matches for our young players to develop their volleyball skills against other clubs from around Ireland.
The 4v4 fun blitz is designed to provide volleyball opportunities for young players between the ages of 9 & 14. In line with our long term player development model, one of the goals in the Learn To Train stage is developing children’s sport specific skills through PLAY. Today’s event also helped to increase understanding of basic rules, tactics, and strategy in games, all while having FUN!
The blitzes are also a response and support to the incredible work clubs have been doing in driving up their youth memberships over the past year.
Launching our first blitz earlier today was our Play Volley ambassador Mikal O’Boyle. Mikal is a widely respected coach also Ireland’s senior women’s national team vice-captain. After taking stock of the event, she had this to say “I was really impressed with not only the numbers of youth coming out to play but with the quick adjustments they made throughout the day. The kids adapted well to playing different teams one after the other, and as the day went on the play got better. There’s definitely a bright future for Irish volleyball.” Mikal was on hand today to provide the young stars with some tips, run a warm up for all teams and also a demonstrate a skill challenge that players can work on before the next 4v4 event. VLY. wish to thank Mikal for her time in coming to Limerick.
If you want to find out more on how you can be involved contact Conor firstname.lastname@example.org.
Stayed tuned early next week as we announce the next location and date for the 4v4 blitz.
Congratulations to our teams today!
