Iceland Claim Double Gold at Historic U19 European Zonal SCA Championship in Dublin
The first U19 Small Countries Association (SCA) Beach Volleyball Championships on Irish soil came to a dramatic close this past weekend at the Sport Ireland Campus Inland Beach Courts, and it was Iceland who emerged as the dominant force, claiming gold in both the men’s and women’s competitions.
Both Icelandic teams went undefeated throughout the tournament, showcasing exceptional skill, composure, and cohesion on the sand. Their performances set a high standard, and they left Dublin with two well-deserved titles.
In the women’s event, hosts Ireland gave the crowd plenty to cheer about with a fantastic run to the final, ultimately earning silver, the country’s first-ever medal at a beach SCA event. Meanwhile Iceland’s Bronze medal duo also reached the podium, taking third after a strong win against the Faroe Islands.
The men’s competition saw Iceland continue their fine form, topping the table ahead of Scotland, who took both silver and bronze in a very competitive draw.
The success of this weekend wasn’t just in the medals, it was in the energy and atmosphere created on the inland courts, the first time they’ve hosted international play. With teams, referees, and supporters from across Europe, it was a proud moment for Irish beach volleyball, and a glimpse of what’s to come!
