Sliver for Ireland

Cassidy & Mulcahy Make History for Ireland with Silver and European Qualification

It was a weekend to remember for Holly Cassidy & Angela Mulcahy, who delivered a historic performance for Ireland at the U19 SCA Beach Volleyball Championships in Dublin.

The young Irish pair, led by Head Beach Coach Melissa Cupples, were unbeaten throughout the group stages, navigating tough matches with determination and composure on their way to the final. In a high-level showdown against a dominant Icelandic side, Cassidy and Mulcahy fought hard but ultimately fell short 2-1, earning an incredible silver medal on home sand.

But their success didn’t stop at the podium. That silver medal also secured Ireland’s first-ever qualification for the CEV U20 Beach Volleyball European Championships in 2026 — a huge milestone for the national programme and a testament to the work being done at youth level.

To achieve this in front of a home crowd, at the Sport Ireland Campus Inland Beach Courts, made it even more special. The newly built venue has already proven to be a game-changer for Irish beach volleyball, enabling international hosting and providing young athletes with elite-level facilities to develop and compete.

Cassidy and Mulcahy’s achievement represents more than just a result — it’s a statement. A statement that Ireland belongs on the European beach volleyball stage, and that the next generation is ready to compete.

The future is bright — and we’re just getting started!
