Underage Volleyball Returns for All Children

Today, the Government has amended current guidelines that had prevented children from participating in competitive Volleyball.

Under previous rules, only fully vaccinated could participate in 6v6 Volleyball – groups of mixed immunity had to remain in Pods of 6. Following engagement with Sport Ireland and Government, regulations have been eased and now permit inclusion for all children, regardless of their vaccination status.

VLY. General Manager Gary Stewart said, “We’re delighted that Govt. found a solution to allow children to get back playing Volleyball. This will allow our school programme and Youth National League to proceed. We’d like to thank Minister Chambers and the team at Sport Ireland for their hard work on the amendment. Children develop vital skills through sport like resilience, social confidence and team work that have life long importance so we’re really happy that we can get back to playing a key developmental role for every child.”

The current rules around Adult participation remain in place.

Volleyball Ireland’s Covid protocols will be updated and circulated to clubs in due course.
