Volleyball Ireland Adopts Governance Code

Volleyball Ireland are delighted to announce the formal adoption of the Governance Code for Sport.

Administered by Sport Ireland, The Governance Code is A Code of Practice for Good Governance of Sport Organisations in Ireland, and features 64 different actions spanning five principles of good Governance. As part of the Government’s National Sports Policy, Sport Ireland has tasked all funded bodies with adoption of the Code by December 31st 2021.

Volleyball Ireland National President, Grainne Culliton said, “We have focussed a lot of time and effort in recent years making our Governance fit for purpose with a new Constitution, introduction of Independent Directors and now adoption of the Governance Code. Adhering to the code is about how the organisation can work effectively and with integrity to safeguard the sport and to help it prosper, and the Board of Directors are committed to those principles. We’ve found that there is a clear correlation between those NGBs that have strong governance and those that perform well. We see good Governance as the foundation to build everything else on.”

Actions related to Type B organisations include facilitating stakeholder feedback and the publishing of a detailed annual report.

Volleyball Ireland would like to thank Susan Ahern and former Board Member Aidan Curran for their work on the Governance project to date
